2023 Bond

Construction continues to move forward on all major Bond 2023 projects as Huffman ISD prepares for another successful school year. Progress is being made on the new Hargrave High School Career & Technical Education Center and Gymnasium and the Huffman Middle School additions and renovations, while planning advances for the Huffman Elementary mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) upgrades. The Board also received an exciting first look at updated renderings for the new Huffman ISD Operations Center, which will serve Transportation, Maintenance, Operations, and the Police Department. In addition, campus safety improvements remain a priority, with fencing projects underway and additional campus hardening measures scheduled for this fall. Construction continues to move forward on the projects approved by voters through the 2023 Bond Program. Since April, significant progress has been made across the district as we prepare improved learning environments and facilities for our students and staff.

Hargrave High School CTE Center & Gym

Construction on the new Career and Technical Education Center and Gymnasium continues to advance. Structural steel installation is complete, roofing and exterior wall systems are progressing, and interior framing and mechanical, electrical, and plumbing work are underway. This facility will provide expanded opportunities for career-focused learning while enhancing athletic and extracurricular programs.

Huffman Middle School Additions & Renovations

Work continues on the classroom additions and campus renovations at Huffman Middle School. Exterior masonry is nearing completion, roofing has progressed, and crews are moving forward with interior finishes and building systems. These additions will provide modern learning spaces to support our growing student population.

Huffman Elementary Mechanical Upgrades

Planning and procurement continue for the mechanical, electrical, and plumbing improvements at Huffman Elementary. The Board recently approved the purchase of a new chiller, an important investment that will improve the reliability and efficiency of the campus HVAC system.

Operations Center

Design work on the new Operations Center continues to move forward, with construction documents nearing completion. This facility will improve operational efficiency by providing a centralized location for district maintenance and operations staff.

Safety & Security Improvements

The district continues to prioritize campus safety through several projects, including:

• Districtwide exterior door rekeying
• Campus fencing improvements
• Additional security enhancements at multiple campuses

These projects are designed to strengthen campus security while supporting a safe learning environment for students and staff.

Looking Ahead

Additional summer projects include repairs to the district's wastewater treatment facility, Administration Building HVAC improvements, and continued progress on all Bond 2023 construction projects.

The district remains committed to being good stewards of taxpayer dollars while delivering projects that enhance learning opportunities, improve safety, and serve the needs of the Huffman ISD community.

Huffman Independent School District continues to make strong progress on projects funded by the 2023 Bond, which was approved by voters to improve facilities, enhance safety, and support student programs across the district.

Several major initiatives are currently underway, with construction, planning, and design work advancing at multiple campuses and district facilities.

Hargrave High School: CTE Center and Gym Progress

Construction continues to move forward on the Career and Technical Education (CTE) Center and Gym expansion at Hargrave High School. The foundation slab for the facility has been completed, and steel framing for the building is now being erected. These visible milestones mark significant progress toward expanding opportunities for students in career and technical programs while also enhancing athletic and activity spaces. 

The district also received positive news during the project review process when county officials confirmed that a fire suppression system will not be required in the agricultural facility, helping reduce project costs.

Huffman Middle School Additions and Renovations

Planning and coordination continue for the additions and renovations at Huffman Middle School, another key component of the 2023 Bond program. The project remains in the development phase as the district works with architects and project partners to finalize details and prepare for construction phases.

These improvements are designed to modernize learning spaces and better accommodate current and future student needs.

Elementary Facilities Improvements

At Huffman Elementary School, engineers recently conducted a final site walk to review mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems across the campus. The engineering team will soon finalize recommendations for upgrades, with the district aiming to bid the project this summer.

These improvements will support long-term facility reliability and operational efficiency.

Safety and Security Enhancements

Student and staff safety remains a top priority for Huffman ISD. Work continues on campus hardening projectsthroughout the district, including fencing improvements and additional safety infrastructure such as protective bollards.

These enhancements are designed to strengthen campus security while maintaining welcoming learning environments.

Operations Center Planning

Another major bond initiative is the development of a new Huffman ISD Operations Center, which will serve as a centralized hub for several essential district services.

The facility will house multiple departments including:

• Transportation

• Child Nutrition

• Maintenance and Operations

• Custodial Services

• Police Department

• Warehouse and equipment storage

• Training and professional development space

The project is currently in the schematic design phase, where architects develop the overall layout and program for the facility before moving into detailed design and construction documents.

Current planning anticipates bidding the Operations Center project in summer 2026, with construction continuing through 2027 and final completion projected in early 2028.
