Many in the Huffman ISD community are asking about the status of Falcon Ridge Elementary School. Some of you may have seen stories in the media or heard information through friends and fellow community members about problems at the school. The District appreciates that parents and taxpayers want to be informed. Here is an update.
The District hired a construction company to complete our new elementary school by July of this past summer. Unfortunately, months later with a school full of students, the building remains unfinished and we believe has significant nonconforming work. We are still in the process of investigating the nature and extent of the problems, but we are working hard every day to minimize any issues that may be impacting the school’s programs. The District is especially dedicated to ensuring that the school offers a safe and healthy environment for students and staff. The District will not take any shortcuts when it comes to student safety and has acted promptly in any instance where safety was a concern.
The District and its general contractor are parties to a lawsuit and have a dispute over payments owed for what we believe is an incomplete and nonconforming construction project. We are also investigating our own claims against the contractor. The District is not a party to any agreements between the contractor and its subcontractors.
It may take some time, but we are fully committed to completing the work at Falcon Ridge and delivering a state-of-the-art facility as promised. The District will release additional updates during this process as we are able. Thank you for your patience and continued support as we work together to finish our school.
