Meet Our Fabulous Technology Integration Team!

Carrie Slayton

Welcome to Instructional Technology!  My name is Carrie Slayton and I am the Instructional Technology Coordinator for Huffman ISD. My passion for technology began as a Technology Applications instructor at Texas A&M University over 15 years ago.  Since then, I have served as a campus instructional technologist and as a regional technology integration specialist at ESC Region 6.  I have presented at local, regional, and state conferences on a variety of technology topics, applications, and programs.  I look forward to serving the faculty and students of Huffman ISD and I am very excited to work with this exceptional team of Technology Mentor Teachers.

Julie Gatlin

My name is Julie Gatlin and I am the Technology Mentor Teacher for Hargrave High School. I am also the CTE Director and teach the Broadcasting II class. I have my master’s degree in Educational Technology Leadership and I am currently working in my doctorate in Instructional Technology. I have been with Huffman ISD since 2000 and I enjoy working with teachers on updating their webpages, providing weekly tech tips and offering a variety of technology trainings for our campus. Also, I am always looking for new and exciting ways for teachers to ingrate technology in the classroom.

Valerie Bardwell

I am Valerie Bardwell, and this is my 19th year of teaching.  I get to teach Theatre Arts and Theatre Production.  I am the yearbook sponsor, and I also get to share my passion for technology with the faculty as the Technology Mentor Teacher. As the TMT, I am excited to help and encourage the faculty on my campus to integrate technology into their lessons.  I also offer training to employees who are not proficient with the software programs used by our district.

Shawn Dunaway

Hello! My name is Shawn Dunaway and I am a 3rd grade reading teacher at Copeland Elementary School.  I have always LOVED learning how to use any kind of new technology, and I have truly enjoyed implementing technology in my class to help my students learn to the best of their ability.  Before moving to Huffman I.S.D., I served as a district technology mentor, so I was thrilled to be named the Technology Mentor Teacher for Copeland Elementary.  As Copeland’s TMT, I will assist teachers with their needs in instructional technology training.  I will also present some mini-workshops on the latest apps and programs available to our staff.  I hope to provide our teachers with avenues that will not only make their job a little easier, but also help them make teaching fun and interactive for their class.  I am looking forward to serving the teachers and students at Copeland Elementary!

Bonnie Jackson

My name is Bonnie Jackson.  I am a Pre-K teacher at Ben Bowen Early Childhood Center.  I have a BS in Speech and Hearing Therapy from West Texas A&M University and an MS Degree in Early Childhood Education from U of H/Clear Lake.  I have taught school FOREVER! Early childhood is my passion.  I have taught in Huffman ISD for the past 25 years.  I taught kindergarten for several years before moving to Pre-K.  I have served on both campus and district technology committees and have participated in sharing information to help inform our community of the wonderful technological advantages we have in HISD.  I attend the state technology conference and ToTs for Technology annually and eagerly share the information I receive with teachers on my campus.  I am proud to serve as the Technology Mentor Teacher at Ben Bowen Early Childhood Center.  As part of my responsibilities, I assist teachers with their instructional technology needs.  I also present mini workshops on using various programs in order to help teachers teach smarter, not harder.
