Child Nutrition
Welcome to Child Nutrition
Director: Simone Orjiako
Dear Huffman ISD Families,
I am excited to introduce myself as the new Child Nutrition Director for Huffman ISD. I am delighted to share some fantastic news with you: Our district will continue participating in the Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) program. This wonderful program allows all our students to receive school breakfast and lunch at no cost, eliminating the need to collect applications.
I look forward to getting to know each of you better and serving your children by providing delicious and nutritious meals. Ensuring that our students have access to balanced meals is critical to their health, academic performance, and overall well-being. A well-nourished child is more likely to succeed in the classroom and beyond.
As part of our commitment to your children's health, we will gradually introduce a greater variety of meals while maintaining the high quality you expect. Our goal is to make nutritious eating appealing and enjoyable, helping students develop healthy eating habits that will last a lifetime.
Thank you for your continued support of our Child Nutrition Program. If you have any questions or suggestions, please do not hesitate to contact me. Together, we can ensure that our students thrive both academically and nutritionally.
Huffman ISD Child Nutrition General Information
The Huffman ISD Child Nutrition Department is dedicated to providing nutritious and delicious breakfasts and lunches to our students throughout the school year. Our menus are regularly shared in elementary school newsletters, displayed in school cafeterias, and posted on the District website at [www.huffmanisd.net](http://www.huffmanisd.net) under the Child Nutrition Department.
Free Meals District Wide
Due to the impacts of the Texas Winter Storm, Huffman ISD is once again eligible to participate in the USDA's Community Eligibility Provision (CEP). This program allows all students to receive breakfast and lunch at no cost, eliminating the need for Free and Reduced meal applications.
A La Carte Options: Snacks, Beverages and More!
Ala carte items, such as snacks, seconds, and beverages, will still be available for purchase. Parents can add money to student accounts for these purchases through the "My School Bucks" pre-payment program, which offers an easy way to add funds (with a small fee), monitor student spending (for free), and set balance alerts (for free). Adults will still need to pay for their meals.
Our Nutritional Commitment and Menu Plan
Today's school breakfasts and lunches are designed to meet stringent national nutrition standards, ensuring they provide essential nutrients like calories, protein, Vitamin A, Vitamin C, iron, and calcium. Additionally, these meals are lower in sodium and cholesterol and higher in fiber compared to the past, with total fat calories averaging 30% or less over a week. Our Child Nutrition professionals carefully plan menus to meet these standards and support our students' health and well-being.
