Huffman ISD is fortunate to provide free breakfast and lunch to all students enrolled in the district. We appreciate everyone’s continued support of our Child Nutrition department. As most people are aware, the School Lunch Program across the United States is facing many challenges.  The news has been reporting on the shortage of available food service workers along with the interruption of the food supply chain.  Huffman ISD is no different.

Child Nutrition has had to endure food and paper goods being back ordered, product substitutions, and product unavailability.  Some of our student’s favorite items are currently unavailable such as Bosco sticks, chicken tenders, and chicken fried steaks just to name a few.  Although our Child Nutrition department is committed to maintaining our standards and offerings as much as possible, difficult decisions have had to be made.  At times, we have had to close various serving lines at the secondary campuses, while reducing the number of entrees and fruits available to our elementary school students.

We apologize and ask for your patience and understanding during this time.  While there is no relief in sight, we are starting to prepare more items from scratch.  We are offering new menu items that have obtainable sources.  Please feel free to contact me with any suggestions and/or concerns.

The Huffman ISD Child Nutrition Department prides itself on serving nutritious and good tasting breakfasts and lunches for our students throughout the school year.  Menus are published in elementary school newsletters and posted in school cafeterias.  Menus are also posted on the District website at, under the Child Nutrition Department.

Because of Harvey related impacts to the District, Huffman ISD has again become eligible to participate in the USDA’s Community Eligibility Provision (CEP). Under CEP all students may receive breakfast and lunch at no cost. 

Under CEP, Free and Reduced meal applications will no longer be required.

Ala carte items (snacks, seconds, beverages, etc.) will still be available for purchase.

Parents may place money on Student Accounts for the ala carte purchases.  The “My School Bucks” pre-payment program provides an easy way to replenish accounts (small fee), view student spending (free), and to set balance alerts (free).

Adults will still be required to pay for their meals.

Today’s school breakfast and lunch are both designed to meet stringent national nutrition standards. These nutritional guidelines require that school meals provide specific amounts of calories, protein, Vitamin A, Vitamin C, iron and calcium. In addition, meals are now lower in sodium and cholesterol and higher in fiber than in the past. Total fat calories are to average 30% or less over a period of a week. Child Nutrition professionals plan the menus to meet these standards.
