Letter From the Director
Dear Huffman ISD Families,
As we prepare to welcome students back for the 2025–2026 school year, I want to share some important updates about the Huffman ISD Child Nutrition Program.
Due to changes in federal eligibility, our district will no longer participate in the Community Eligibility Provision (CEP), which previously allowed all students to receive free meals without an application.Beginning this school year, Huffman ISD will return to the traditional Free and Reduced-Price Meals model under the National School Lunch Program (NSLP) and School Breakfast Program (SBP). This means families will need to complete a meal application to determine eligibility for free or reduced-price meals. Students who do not qualify will be charged for meals at the established prices.
While this is a shift from past years, our commitment to providing healthy, balanced meals remains the same. Each meal we serve meets strict USDA nutrition guidelines, ensuring that your child receives the right combination of fruits, vegetables, whole grains, lean proteins, and milk. Meals are carefully planned to support both physical health and academic performance.
This year, we are also excited to introduce new items on the menu based on student feedback and evolving food trends. Our goal is to serve meals that are not only nutritious but also flavorful and appealing—because when students enjoy what’s on their tray, they’re more likely to eat well and stay energized throughout the day.
We also want families to know that participating in school meal programs helps strengthen our community. Every reimbursable meal served supports our program's ability to operate sustainably and helps provide stable jobs for members of the Huffman community who work hard to feed our students each day.
If you have any questions about the application process or meal services, please don’t hesitate to reach out. We are here to help every step of the way. Thank you for your continued support and for entrusting us to serve your children.
“Fueling Falcons, one meal at a time!”
Warmly,
Simone Orjiako
