Pre-K Eligibility

Pre-K Eligibility Requirements:
TEA requires a student to be qualified to attend the Pre-K program. Below is a list of requirements.
To be eligible for enrollment in a PK class, a child must be 4 years old on September 1st of the current school year and must meet one of the following requirements:  

1) Is unable to speak and comprehend the English language

2) Is eligible to participate in the national free or reduced-price lunch program, is eligible for SNAP/TANF, State Medicaid program, or is considered a migrant child

3) Is identified as homeless

4) Is a child of an active duty member of the armed forces of the United States to include: active duty uniformed members of the US Army, Navy, Marine Corps, Air Force, Coast Guard or Texas National Guard

5) Is the child of a member, including the state military forces or a reserved component of the armed forces, who is injured or killed while on active duty or missing in action

6) Has ever been in foster care in Texas or in another state, if the child currently resides in the state of Texas

7) Is a dependent of an eligible Star of Texas Award: Peace Officer, firefighter, or emergency medical first responder

8) If the student was eligible to enroll for Pre-K in the previous school year but did not attend or has yet to enroll in Kindergarten
