Hargrave High School Student Leads โ€œPond to Purposeโ€ Community Project
Mandy Fortenberry

A Hargrave High School student is turning vision into action through an innovative project designed to benefit both students and the community.

On Wednesday, December 10, Huffman ISD held a groundbreaking ceremony for Pond to Purpose, an initiative organized and led by Hargrave High School student Zach Casas. The project focuses on revitalizing the pond and surrounding areas at Falcon Ridge Elementary School into a safe, sustainable, and educational outdoor learning environment.

Groundbreaking for Pond2Purpose

Pond to Purpose is designed to enhance student learning through hands-on experiences with nature while also supporting mental health and wellness. The revitalized space will provide opportunities for environmental education, reflection, and exploration in a peaceful outdoor setting.

Key components of the project include habitat restoration, the addition of outdoor learning spaces, and the creation of nature walking trails. Together, these elements will transform the area into a living classroom that connects science, sustainability, and community engagement.

“This project not only enriches student learning but also creates a lasting resource for the entire community to enjoy,” said district leaders during the ceremony.

Pond to Purpose is Zach Casas’ project for the Ford Leader Scholars Program, highlighting student leadership, service, and real-world impact. The project reflects Huffman ISD’s commitment to student voice, innovation, and partnerships that extend learning beyond the classroom.

The district looks forward to watching this space develop and to the lasting impact it will have on Falcon Ridge Elementary students and the broader Huffman ISD community.
